Tech Crunch Disrupt – New York May 24 -26

There’s so much buzz around the new york tech scene right now.  Open Angel Forums is coming and now Tech Crunch Disrupt.  I’ve always felt that NY was a great place to start a company, but it’s been difficult because of the lack of support for people (like me) that doesn’t know anyone. (I know, I know, I should go out and meet people instead of blogging… ).

Anyway, anyone who’s interested in presenting as a startup can apply.

Passion Versus Obsession

John Hagel wrote a great article on passion v. obsession : Edge Perspectives with John Hagel: Passion Versus Obsession.

He has a couple of great points:

Passion pulls to the edge, while Obsession pushes to the edge

Passion achieves potential, while Obsession compensates for inadequacy

Passion broadens, while Obsession narrows

Passion expands relationships, while Obsession inhibits them

Passion creates options, while obsession closes them.

While he doesn’t discuss this, I’d like to think that passion and obsession can work well together.  I personally think that a little obsession is healthy at times.  Narrowing focus, inhibiting relationships and closing options, may help in productivity.

Changing the direction of my blog

For a while, my blog’s been just a dumping ground for what i’ve been thinking about – primarily a mixture of tech stuff, design stuff and random ramblings.  For a while ive’ felt it was pretty unfocused and didn’t have a voice.  So in an effort to focus my blog, I’ve decided to focus on the struggles and learnings of a trying to start a startup in the big apple.  I’ll also provide reviews, thoughts, resources and analysis of the new york tech entrepreneur scene.
